Then I entered in "Hummer H2" and "around the block," and I got the same answer.

This morning on Headline News they mentioned a Web site that's actually kind of worthwhile for people who want to do something other than buy useless junk or keep up with how fat and sloppy Britney Spears has gotten -- the AAA's fuel cost calculator asks you for the starting and destination points of your trip and the year and model of your car and then spits out a number indicating how much you can expect to pay for gas.

F'rinstance, when I drive from the B-hizzy to Atlanta this weekend in my 2000 Jetta, the calculator says I'll probably end up blowing $27.70 on gas. Incidentally, for $11.30 more, I could buy a one-way plane ticket on Southwest from here to New Orleans. Hmmmm . . . I'm starting to rethink my weekend plans.

Let me just say, though, I made a trip to DC a few days ago and it cost almost as much one way as the calculator said it would round-trip.

Be warned.

This thing doesn't go far back enough to list my 85 Tercel, but I think it's accurate enough. I entered the standard Seattle - Eugene trip and it's still worth it to drive. Though sometimes, Amtrak is crazy cheap.

Aside, I can't remember how I found your blog, but I read All The Time. Thanks.

Howdy, Doug! I notice you're linked via a Pandagon post which is in turn linked by Atrios, hallowed be his millions of daily site-hits.

Now, I'm not prone to blogwhoring, but since you and I are such old friends...

um...

what were we talking about? Gas mileage? I'm in favor of gas mileage. That's offbeat liberal Matt Lavine's opinion, yessir.

Um, it's not "The ATL" or "Hotlanta," unless we're speaking 'Tool.'

And isn't anyone who drives a Hummer - that isn't a soldier on patrol - an asshole? I always assumed so.

I can't speak to personality, but I know that when I see a Hummer on the road, my first thought is compensation. The immediate assumption is that the guy's equipment is thatbig, which is probably not what he's going for.

Conversely, I like to think that I drive a little Volkswagen Jetta to undercompensate for having a . . . well, I'll end it right there.

Of course Big Car has a big charges. But this is not go right for anyone.
I don't know why,but I've always been fascinated by the hummer as a production/consumer vehicle. So to spend money for my Hummer is not big problem for me.
