Racism is apparently dead in the Deep South; irony, thank God, is not.

Today as Ann and I were heading over to Costco for our monthly stock-up trip -- which was lovely, by the way -- and we were listening to the Paul Finebaum show. And this older gentleman called in about Jimmy Johns's arrest for cocaine distribution. And he starts off by mentioning that the NCAA recently reduced the number of free meals that colleges could provide for their athletes per day to one, and he suggests that strict rules like these could be what force athletes to seek money elsewhere.

And I realized that for the first time I could remember, an old white man from Alabama was excusing a black kid for dealing coke.

God bless you, Alabama football -- you've won 12 national titles and ended racism as we know it. Remember where you were today.

White man makes excuses for priveleged black man dealing coke and that's a good thing in your mind?

Anonymous, meet sarcasm. Sarcasm, anonymous. Why don't the two of you sit down and chat for a while.

Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to check my gravitas at the door next time I visit snarkville. A lot of what you write makes more sense now. So, you're really not an Obama fan.

To clarify: Previous comment meant to support Doug, mock annonymous commenter with clever, snarky reference to eighties TV show You Can't do that on--

Nevermind. Too much effort.
