Put that coffee down! . . .

. . . and watch this YouTube video I found whilst hunting around for quotes to use in a magazine story I'm working on about the changing psychology of selling and salesmanship. It's the "coffee is for closers" scene from the 1992 film adaptation of Glengarry Glen Ross, written specifically for the movie. Actually, Alec Baldwin's entire character was written specifically for the movie, and here's his one scene, all eight minutes of it -- but it's a pretty good eight minutes.

Needless to say, the audio is NSFW unless you're a sailor, stevedore, or Vice President Dick Cheney. Enjoy.

No doubt there will be a fawning autofellating post on this site soon about your runner-up finish to ESDBS.com for one of the College Football Blogger awards, but let me be the first to say Congrats. Your dog misses her squeaky football.

In 11th grade, I named Glengarry Glen Ross as the "Best Film of 1992" in my high school newspaper. I think everybody thought I was a dork then, but I'd like to think I have the last laugh now.

And I'm still pissed Alec Baldwin didn't continue to play Jack Ryan in Patriot Games. He chose to do a freakin' play instead. He could still be doing Jack Ryan movies today, dammit.

Josh this is one of those rare times I agree with you. Alec Balwin was the perfect Jack Ryan. I think Ford and Affleck are great actors, but Baldwin was far and away the best Ryan.

1. Fantastic movie.

2. The yutzes these guys were playing are why it's so hard to be a professional salesman today. Most people think you're just trying to screw them.

3. I always wonder how different Pacino's later roles would have been if he had won the Oscar for this instead of Scent of a Women.

It's safe for work if you're Nick Saban, too, so long as there's no recorder around. But definitely not Bobby Bowden! No way.
