Before you even ask, no, The Onion didn't come up with this.

It is all too real:

Seriously, who does that?? Does this look like the kind of thing Spurrier would've signed off on when he was at Florida? All that's left now is to decide the athletic department's slogan for the 2009-10 academic year:

· "Gamecock athletics: Finally on the sunny side of mediocre."

· "Setting the bar low . . . and clearing it."

· "The relentless pursuit of acceptability."

· "South Carolina sports: Because there's no thrill like breaking even."

Any other ideas, children?

Hey-what happened to my apostrophes? Try again this way. South Carolina-we are cocks and we are game-we are just not good.

Oh wow.

As if we didn't have enough reasons to hate The State

Not that I'm not embarrassed by it -- and I think Spurrier would just as soon The State not print it -- I've got to point out that the Athens Banner-Herald couldn't have run this ad if they wanted to.

I think this was a ridiculous thing to publish, but a little perspective, though: This season is the 10 yr anniversary of the Gamecock 0-11 season. So, hooray for not sucking indeed.

George Carlin had a term for this: "Minimally exceptional."

HAHA, yeah, that's good stuff. I saw this everwhere the past few days, and for some reason it didn't get any traction when we posted it - http://www.3sib.com/2009/05/21/nothing-says-mediocrity-like-being-rewarded-for-it/
