Republicans say the darndest things.

I obviously don't have the energy to liveblog the election results, but I did see/read/hear two interesting things just now.

The first was RNC chair Ken Mehlman talking about how he didn't think Virginia Sen. George "Macaca" Allen was being trailed as closely by his Democratic opponent, Jim Webb, because Webb was strongest in the northern Virginia precincts and those had already been counted. According to CNN, here are only the counties/cities (because cities of a certain population are considered independent of their counties) in Virginia that hadn't yet finished counting at the time Mehlman said that: Arlington, city of Charlottesville, Fairfax, city of Fairfax, Gloucester, city of Harrisonburg, Isle of Wight, Loudoun, city of Martinsville, Prince Edward, city of Richmond, city of Virginia Beach, and city of Waynesboro.

I'll give you a second to click on the links and get acquainted with where those places are. Got all that? OK then.

The other thing I found whilst surfing around CNN.com was this story about an Ohio congresswoman basically absolving herself of responsibility for the mess in Iraq.

If I don't post again before tomorrow morning, good night, and good luck . . .

It was a bloodbath today for the Republicans. Control of the senate could come down to a few thousand votes in Virginia, because it looks like Montana gained that Dem seat.

Shuler won.

Go Vols.

The latest news I had from my home state of VA is that there was a .1% difference between Webb and Allen with a number of absentee ballots to be counted from Fairfax County and several other No. VA counties, who tend to vote Dem. There is hope yet! Monitoring CNN for late-breaking news......

The only localities with votes still out in VA are Fairifax City (for Webb)and Isle of Wight County (for Allen). Projecting the current votes to 100% gives Allen a net gain of 4 votes between the two areas. Not enough to make up an 8000 vote difference.

Vive le Democrats!

And I might add that as a Redskins fan I never thought I would be glad to see Shuler go back to Washington.

Go Vols

Amen to that. Go Redskins! Vols suck!

Yeah, that Iraq-dodging COngresswoman is Deborah Pryce, who is still my Congresswoman. I'm so mad about this, and I feel personally responsible. I knew I should have gone door-to-door. The only thing that kept her in was the aggressive gerrymandering the GOP has done in this state.

Pryce is, incidentally, the No. 4 Republican in the U.S. House. Nope, she had nothing to do with Iraq, nossir, not a thing.

Argh.

Olbermann remarked that this was the first thing Shuler had completed.
