Stay classy, South Bend.

Normally I wouldn't consider this worthy of its own post, but it has been stated policy at every blog I've ever done that hate mail will be published in full, so . . . here's something that popped up in my inbox today:

Subject : irish rule

hey clown i read your blog about jimmy clausen i can tell your a georgia fan because you are clueless.hey nothing wrong with being a georgia fan someone has to be one.you and everyone else might as well deal with it THE IRISH ARE BACK!.charlie weis has probably forgotten more football than mark(i'll probably bolt for fla st.as soon as bowden retire's)richt will ever know.

Yowser, apparently somebody read my exhaustively researched history of the Tossin' Clausens and didn't like it too much. I'm still trying to figure which one of the following groups THCOUGAR69 falls into:

(a) Notre Dame fans (specifically, the subset of fans who didn't actually go to the school)

(b) Tennessee fans who have latched onto Notre Dame as their new bandwagon du jour because their own team currently sucks

(c) Georgia Tech fans determined to hate on UGA by any means necessary

(d) Some other group I've forgotten about

Given the fact that THCOUGAR69's brief e-mail contains a spelling error, 17 capitalization mistakes, and 10 punctuation errors (in but four sentences!), I'm favoring (b) over (a), but I'm curious to read y'all's speculation in the comments.

and you didn't count failures of logic... why does someone "have to be" a georgia fan? i mean, just because there's a school doesn't mean someone has to be a fan -- just look at tech's attendence numbers

Doubtful that a Tennessee fan would latch onto Notre Dame. Tennessee plays them on weekends that Georgia takes off, so you might have missed it. And they kicked us pretty hard, so no love lost there. Maybe someday Georgia will play a schedule like that.....

You mean "One-Arm" Casey Clausen don't you?

don't you love vol fans getting on about their schedule... we can't beat you on the field, but we'll beat your schedule (and you know, win five games)

My favorite college football stat of the past few years.

"Mark Richt has won more games in Neyland Stadium vs. Top 10 teams since 2001 than Phil Fulmer."

That. Is. Out. Frigging. Standing.

Just thought I'd throw that in while we are talking about the mighty Vols.

Can anyone deny the Vols play a tough schedule? Dis' 'em all you want but they don't duck anybody.

Yes Bill, you play a tough schedule. So does every team in the SEC, because we're forced to. Of course Tennessee did schedule these games with Notre Dame back when Bob Davie and his band of inept men were in South Bend. That's not exactly scheduling a reigning national champion. More like trying to beat the former regional/national power during a down cycle to make recruiting inroads in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana. Oh, and it's worth noting that Tennessee's upcoming nonconference slate is actually their toughest since at least 2002. I mean, Air Force, Marshall, and Memphis aren't exactly that impressive to me, but they are better than MTSU, Rutgers (who really sucked back then) and, wait for it. . .Wyoming. Of course we open the season with Western Kentucky, so I've probably already said too much.

Heck West Virgina doesn't impress alot of folks either...

Are you saying that either Air Force, Marshall and Memphis are the same as Notre Dame?

"THE IRISH ARE BACK!"

With that statement, the perpetrator could be a member of the national media.

Not that his posts ever made much sense to begin with, but Bill has completely lost it by the last one. Guess he missed all that Boise State and Clemson hype the last few years too...

But yeah, Miami, Notre Dame. We got it. Games like that probably are the reason you lost to Vandy last year!
