Dammit, she was one of my favorites.

Ann Richards, former Texas governor and all-around ass-kicking chick, died yesterday at the age of 73. This is a really, really sad day for me, because Ann Richards was one of my favorite politicians ever, one of the few remaining people who would speak her mind and say what she thought without checking with a focus group first; her keynote address at the 1988 Democratic convention, for example, was dynamite, and the source of the now-famous George H.W. Bush "born with a silver foot in his mouth" quote.

And sometimes I wonder what would've happened if Ann hadn't vetoed the Texas concealed-carry bill after all and ended up winning re-election over George W. How much better would the world be right now?

Just another Pelosi, Hilary, Boxer, Feinstein, etc. Blame, blame, blame. Name call, point fingers. Don't have any plans to solve any problems.

You got one thing right, Demos use those polls and focus groups to make their decisions. None of them have the balls to stand on their own principles.

Grow up Dougie. Your only redeming trait is that you're a DAWG fan.

Blinding insight anonymous-Repubs never use polls or focus groups. Right. So Repubs have plans to solve problems? You mean like Bush plan to end terror? How's that going? Do you like the part where he pulled troops out of Afghanistan just as we were close to capturing Bin Laden? Or how bout transforming Iraq which, before the war, had little to nothing to do with terror, to the ultimate terrorist training camp. The UN had the right plan for keeping Sadam in check and if Bush had not forced out the inspectors, (that's right Bush, not Sadam) the whole world would be in better shape now.

Don't you love it when the people whose plan is to shoot themselves in the head accuse others of not having a plan to solve problems?

Accusing Ann Richards of not having principals is like accusing George Bush of being smart. Give me a break! If there was one person in politics whose principals and positions and stands were obvious and consistant, it was Ann Richards.

Ann Richards was truly a great lady. She had her problems but who doesn't. I loved her because she was a tough old bird who could dish it out. She is also to be memorialized as the first person to be "swiftboated" by the Rove/Bush scumbags. If the people in Texas had not bought the nonsense that Rove sold them then we might not be watching as the Bush chimp takes us down the road to ruin.

Yeah, we need some tough demos in there like Teddy Kennedy, Chucky Schumer, Joe Biden, Barney Frank, Harry Reid, etc. Real American He-Men.

I bet those terriorist would just shit their pants and hide in their caves and never come out again if we had those guys running the show.

coolschool, so you got faith in the U.N.? Sad, very sad.
