FWIW, For Your Eyes only was the first - and one of the few - Bond films I saw in a movie theatre, with my father in Edinburgh when we were on vacation at the time. Strong sentimental favorite as a result.

And the new Casino Royale kicked ass, surprisingly so.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11250715.post-47340171227665061612007-08-25T11:55:00.000-04:002007-08-25T11:55:00.000-04:00It isn't really a spy movie but a really good movi...It isn't really a spy movie but a really good movie that feels like a spy movie is The Day of the Jackal and the Bruce Willis remake doesn't count. I grew up about 45 minutes south on I-81.

Any way, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE is a solid choice at #1, for all the reasons you mention, plus I would say Blofeld and Rosa Klebb (she of the poison shoe-tips) stack up against any other Bond villains.

Other faves are DR. NO, GOLDFINGER, ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, and the Daniel Craig CASINO ROYALE.

Although I am more a Sean Connery-over-Roger-Moore kinda guy, I have to mention THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, if only because it featured the liptastic Barbara Bach.

http://www.bond-girls.net/barbara-bach.htmlAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11250715.post-61147439836163192007-08-24T23:38:00.000-04:002007-08-24T23:38:00.000-04:00I am older than most of you i suspect, but anon 2:...I am older than most of you i suspect, but anon 2:54 is right about Dr. No. Also about language. I hated the Brosnan ones (except for Goldeneye, which was passable), and I only consider two to be great films: From Russia With Love and Casino Royale.

I also have a soft spot for You Only Live Twice, but that's probably because it was the first Bond movie I saw. Maybe it holds up, I have no idea.Josh M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/04054764121030646400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11250715.post-34752569086037446932007-08-24T23:23:00.000-04:002007-08-24T23:23:00.000-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Josh M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/04054764121030646400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11250715.post-54037665072047301782007-08-24T15:54:00.000-04:002007-08-24T15:54:00.000-04:00Sorry, but to include any Roger Moore movie, and t...Sorry, but to include any Roger Moore movie, and to exclude "Dr. No" is a major faux pas.

And to all you foreign language geniuses, to say "el diez" or "le dix" is wrong, wrong, wrong.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11250715.post-33299379591766895772007-08-24T13:40:00.000-04:002007-08-24T13:40:00.000-04:00Best spy movies:1. What does he do? He shoves Goodnight into the closet and she has to spend the night there, standing up basically, while he fucks the femme fatale instead of her. Then when he leaves he retrieves her and smooth talks his way out of it, and amazingly she doesn't hate him forever. Au contraire- he gets that ass too.

That, my friends, is Big Pimpin': bring a girl back to your pad, about to hit it, then shove her in a coat closet for the night while you fuck someone else, then still get the girl in the closet. Warning!: do not try this at home- it may result in serious injury or even death.

Et maintenant, le dix:

1. "All Nite All Day" by Ginuwine, from '100% Ginuwine'

2. Has the normal formula: exotic locale, beautiful villainess and beautiful heroine, but only more so.

Goldfinger--Loved the book, loved the movie. Great cast. One of my favorite Bond book quotes ever: "Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, the third time it's enemy action.".

For Your Eyes Only--I also thought this movie was a nice departure from the typical Bond movie. Carole Bouquet was fabulous.

Diamonds are Forever--Connery's first swan song. Jill St. John and Lana Wood were easy on the eyes and Bruce Glover (Crispin's dad) was hilarious in his turn as the bent homosexual killer. Unfortunately Austin Powers flicks satirized this (and Thunderball) so thoroughly it's hard to watch these two without giggling in spots.

The Man With The Golden Gun--One of the few Bond movies that flopped, I still like it. Maud Adams and Britt Eklund were awesome Bond girls, while the late Herve Villechaize and Clifton James provided comic relief. Entertaining flick.

I happened to like both Bond movies with Timothy Dalton (I preferred License to Kill), and enjoyed Goldeneye with Pierce Brosnan. I still have not seen the latest Bond flick, but it surely looks promising.....Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11250715.post-84024600573689349512007-08-24T09:15:00.000-04:002007-08-24T09:15:00.000-04:001. Goldeneye - Easily the best of the Brosnan films, and a welcome departure from Dalton's overly dour Bond. Also spawned the video game that devoured so many hours of my life.

3. Casino Royale - Craig has the potential to be the best Bond ever. Yes, including that one.

4. Man w/ the Golden Gun - Moore may have been a goofball but this was his snarky best. It had great villian (Christopher Lee) and a great secondary character (Tattoo). Also, I submit that Honey Ryder is the hottest Bond Girl to date.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
